This series of workshops is for districts that have decided to put a stop to the "brain drain." Nearly half of all new teachers leave the profession after five years, and we simply must give teachers the tools to stay in the classroom. We can no longer rely on saying "things will get better after you have a few years of experience," because by then these great new teachers have left the profession.
*Owning Words for Literacy™ Workshops:
I was thrilled to be selected to teach the Owning Words for Literacy™ program, which was created by Dr. Meggin McIntosh in conjunction with Nevada Reading First. Having completed the certification training in June of 2007, I can now offer these high-quality workshops throughout the United States.
In addition to teaching these for elementary teachers (as they were initially designed), I have created (with Dr. McIntosh's blessing) a high school version of these courses. There are too many great techniques for vocabulary instruction to rely on the “list on Monday, test on Friday” technique! With only minor adaptations, high school teachers in any content area can improve their students’ vocabulary comprehension.
*Communication Skills Workshops:
Public Speaking and effective communication skills have always been my passion. I can teach a variety of workshops in these areas and will target my instruction to your needs. A few favorites:
